The Scottish Qualifications Authority was formed out of a merger of the existing SCOTVEC and Higher Education bodies for Scotland. Following the decision to merge the two organisations there was a change management requirement to bring two cultures, two locations and two very different working environments together to create a unified and cohesive organisation focused upon the development and management of education across Scotland.

The challenge was to enhance the working environment, establish a new corporate standard in terms of workplace and plan and manage an upgrade programme with associated relocation requirements.

Create new working environments and the project management of all refurbishment and relocation activities.

• Establish a comprehensive refurbishment and relocation project plan with zero disruption to ongoing operations.
• Liaise with all stakeholder groups throughout planning and consultation phases of the project plans.
• Project manage all risks associated with refurbishment and relocation projects.
• Represent SQA with regarding all planning and approval requirements.
• Procurement of all associated subcontract and supplier requirements.
• Inform and motivate the internal champion’s network with regard to the planning and logistics associated with the refurbishment and relocation plan.

• Lengthy 24/7 project refurbishment and relocation plan completed to plan and budget.
• No unplanned disruption to routine business activities.
• No internal or external communications issues.
• Consolidation of storage and printing functions resulting in reduced investment and associated ongoing operational costs.
• Extremely positive staff feedback regarding improved working environment and relocation process.
