Scottish Enterprise is the main economic development agency in Scotland and is funded by the Scottish Government. Their mission is to help build a world-class economy by providing strategic advice and business assistance.

A new headquarters building in Atlantic Quay, Glasgow was completed in 2002 allowing Scottish Enterprise to focus its corporate client facing activities from one location.

Key Facilities Management was appointed in 2002 to manage and operate the facilities services within the new facility.

The task was to ensure that the organisation responsible for the economic well being of the Country was seen to operate efficiently, effectively whilst demonstrating best practice.

Objectives


  • In depth commissioning and coordination of the fit out within the facility was required to ensure continuity of operation throughout the relocation period.
  • Support development of in-house facilities teams.
  • Procure new service contracts for all building systems and equipment.
  • Manage and monitor churn and change to meet the ever changing demands from in-house and visiting personnel.
  • Integrate into the financial and management reporting systems of the corporate organisation.
  • Establish building management structure and monitoring and control procedures.
  • Develop and implement facilities management budget and financial controls.

Outcomes


  • Facility fully functional day 1.
  • New facilities team structure implemented.
  • New supply chain procured and implemented providing relative reduction in occupancy costs.
  • Space management and measurement system implemented enabling ongoing management and development of space utilisation and churn.
  • New facilities established incorporating H&S, Services Procurement, Building Management, Catering, Environmental Services, security and help-desk.
  • Building Management support team established.
